We take submissions continuously
We have changed the way that we work, so as to take submissions continuously. This means that we have No Theme for any of our issues, but encourage high standards of work in fiction, non-fiction and academic-style works of all types.We recommend that if you want to see your writing or artwork appear in Harbinger, use what follows as your bible and you can't go wrong. If you don't live by these guidelines, your work will NOT be accepted. You have been warned...
Oh, and it's a good idea to have a look at our past issues to see the type of stuff we've had in the past.
1. All work we receive must be previously unpublished.
2. Submissions are ONLY accepted by email.
3. We accept ONE submission per writer per issue.
4. All submissions must be in Word (*.doc) or Rich Text (*.rtf) and be unformatted.
5. Submit by email only to harbinger@brascoebooks.com.au
6. Provide your real name, any pseudonym (clearly marked), and where you live in the body of your email.
7. PLEASE NOTE: Submisions sent in the body of an email will be deleted.
Word lengths & categories.
1. FLASH fiction is up to 1,000 words.
2. SHORT fiction is up to 5,000 words.
3. NONFICTION and ESSAYS are up to 5,000 words.
4. Works over 5,000 words will not be accepted.
Artwork.
1. We always want new and original artwork for our journal, and will publish original artworks including digital art, photography, textile art and any other variation. Contact us for more information.
Payment, returns, simultaneous submission, and all the other stuff.
1. Sorry - we can't offer payment for any writing or art accepted for use. The good karma is all you get!
2. Pieces are published on merit only, and correspondence will not be entered into.
3. We do not return manuscripts. If it is not accepted, it is deleted. Always keep your own copy!
4. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, provided that you tell us that you've submitted it elsewhere.
5. Rights remain with all authors for their work. If pieces published in Harbinger are reproduced elsewhere, we appreciate being acknowledged. Please do let us know if you reproduce a piece that was first published here - we like to hear about it so we can see where our writers end up!
